The University of Hertfordshire offers a stimulating environment for postgraduate research in history, with supervision by some of the major leaders in the fields of British and European history.
In the Research Excellence Framework of 2014, 85 per cent of our research in history was rated 'world-leading' and 'internationally excellent', and we achieved 100% for impact (the only university in the UK to achieve this top score).
Our research interests are wide, but cluster in four broad groups:
Our research is disseminated widely and we are also pioneers in community co-production of research, co-ordinated by the University's Heritage Hub, and Everyday Lives in War, one of five Arts and Humanities Research Council funded national centres for public engagement with the First World War.
Our postgraduate students are warmly welcomed to join the History Lab, which runs an active programme of events and visits.
The Centre for Regional and Local History also provides a point of contact and collaboration for students researching topics relating to regional history.
We are also developing our new Digital History Research Centre, and welcome applications from students in the digital humanities.
