Research in the School of Engineering and Technology

Hand holding a model airplane The School of Engineering and Technology's Centre for Engineering Research has a long history of industry-focused research and development in addition to public-sector funding, evolving from the research base.

Our research is at the forefront of innovation in science, engineering and information sciences, with 95% of our engineering research being rated as internationally excellent or internationally recognised in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 .

Our well-equipped laboratories and diverse expertise of academic and research staff in the School allow us to enhance learning and teaching and grow our collaborative partnerships, gaining impact as well as widening the end-used benefit of our research.

Our strategy and approach to managing research impact is underpinned by the industrial relevance of our activities and seeks to provide a sustainable platform from which to grow the future exploitation of our research outputs.

To promote and encourage research growth while emphasising research quality and focussed activity, the Centre for Engineering Research (CER) include areas such as:

Digital media processing and biometrics have a wide range of applications in physical access, logical access, and law enforcement.
