Community projects are embedded in many modules. Our Marketing Communications students’ assignment is based on delivering MarCom strategy for a charity. Each year several charities benefit from engaging with this module.
As part of their Leadership and Change module, our Executive MBA students are required to complete a community project. This year a group of 5 students (all currently executives in the private and public sectors) assist local charity in preparing their strategic plan. The project is valued at least £5,000, but the charity will benefit from our support free of charge.
The SEU has partnered with CVS St Albans in designing and delivering Dragons’ Apprentice Challenge. The finals have always been held in the Auditorium on de Havilland Campus.

Enactus is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action.
The Enactus Hertfordshire team are supported by their Academic Adviser, Roma Bhowmick and a strong team of corporate mentors from EY, Tesco & Unilever and Enterprise Rentacar. These experienced senior managers and experts are helping the students to develop the skills necessary to plan and begin to deliver their first few projects in the community.
Projects so far have resulted in working with the homeless, a refuge centre and local schools, creating a variety of opportunities for individuals to better their lives.
This year they were fortunate to win a funding competition set up by Asda to support development of a glass recycling idea – turning bottles into vases and candles for sale. The funds were used to support purchase of glass cutting equipment and the idea is for sales to generate income to support projects. Additionally, the team have been fortunate to be supported with funding from the HBS Social Enterprise unit to again reward their efforts.
